A single-herb liquid extract of dried berry of Juniperus communis, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Common juniper has the widest natural distribution of any woody plant on earth, running right round the northern hemisphere from Alaska through Scandinavia and Siberia to Japan, on everything from sea cliffs to alpine scree. Its needles are sharp, in whorls of three, each with a single white band on the inner face. What is sold as a juniper berry is not a berry but a cone: the scales are fleshy and fused, and it takes two to three years to ripen from hard green to blue-black under a pale waxy bloom, so a single bush carries both years at once. The resinous, piny, faintly citrus taste is the defining flavour of gin, which takes its name from the plant.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Juniper is not for use in pregnancy or in kidney disease. Do not use for more than 4 weeks continuously. Juniper may lower blood sugar; if you take diabetes medication, monitor accordingly.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs. Do not use if the tamper seal is broken or missing. Store tightly capped in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
